Seminole Community Mental Health Center, Inc., is a private, nonprofit organization whose goal is to provide comprehensive, biopsychosocial rehabilitation programming in the areas of mental health and substance abuse. These services are designed to facilitate our clients recognizing and using their strengths and abilities as well as identify their personal goals for successfully living, learning, socializing and working in our community.
Seminole Community Mental Health Center, Inc., programming is provided in a client centered and flexible manner to meet the ongoing and changing needs of the individuals we serve. Staff collaborate with clients to identify their strengths, needs and goals and coordinate services to accomplish these goals. Staff partner with families and other community resources to support the needs of our clients and assist our clients to integrate successfully into the community. The agency will also serve as an important educational resource to our community in the areas of mental health and substance abuse.
The following principles represent the basic philosophy under which SCMHC operates:
- Respect for clients and fellow staff members is the cornerstone of all our interpersonal interactions.
- Respect starts by establishing Adult to Adult relationships between staff and clients, eliminating paternalistic and judgmental interactions.
- Respect requires that we focus on the whole person and their potential to grow and learn by tapping into their individual talents and strengths.
- Respect promotes self determination by clients, encouraging learning and risk taking and requires that staff support, encourage and mentor clients as individuals with unique needs and goals.
- Respect allows clients to learn by doing and experiencing natural consequences as opportunities for growth and learning. Respect requires clients to accept responsibility for their choices.
- Clients are encouraged to be involved in all aspects of program development so the agency can evolve and meet their needs and priorities.
- Promoting educational and vocational opportunities is an extremely powerful means of building self esteem and self worth.
- Client’s access to any program within the agency will be open and flexible as the needs and preferences of the client change.
- There are no wrong doors to services within the agency; we also serve the community by referring individuals to other social service programs as appropriate and support them through the linking process.
- Our primary goal is to integrate clients into our community in all aspects of their life including work, social and residential needs as directed by the goals of each client as an individual.
- Program success is measured by effort and is based on outcomes in the areas of employment, residence, social, legal, substance abuse, education, finances and physical health.
- Staff provide hope and help to clients as they go about the business of living their lives.
